A Blast from the Past - Or Not

Back in the 80’s, neon shorts, roller-skates, and Walkmans were all the rage.  Especially the unholy combination of the three (which you might still get a glimpse at on the in Venice Beach California, including this guy from who knows what decade. But the world’s moved on since the 1980s: from neon shorts to almost normal cloths, from roller-skates to roller-blades, from walkman to... err... walkman. Only today the Sony Walkman series are some of the best music-centric phones on the market.

All the Sony Ericsson Walkman phones have great music features, including music keys on the front or sides of the phone, TrackID Music Recognition, SenseMe, MediaGO, FM radio, etc.  But not all Walkman’s are created equal.  The W980 (W of course standing for Walkman), for example, comes with an FM-transmitter, meaning that you can send whatever's playing on your phone to any device with a built-in FM radio receiver. This gives you the ability to share your music with all those around you, whether through a friend's hi-fi or your car stereo. The W980 is also a flip phone, so if you want to feel like Captain Kirk using the Communicator, then this is the Walkman phone for you.

On the other hand, if you’re into music and the visual arts, you might want to go with the W995, a slider phone featuring an impressive 8.1 megapixel camera with a plethora of features you’d expect to find on a single purpose camera. In fact, it looks like Sony has stolen some of the best features from their Cybershot series to make this phone the best multimedia phone possible. The W980 and W995 also have clear stereo speakers and clear bass, allowing you to listen to your music at high volumes with quality so clear you’ll feel like you in the recording studio.  While the W995 is Windows 7 compatible, the smart features of the  CandyBar shaped W960 are sure to wow you, including a touchscreen with handwriting recognition, document editor, and Philips Nexperia PNX4008 208 MHz processor.  But if you’re into colors, then the W950 could be the phone for you with its Mystic Purple version, which I know will be a favorite of Pinky Tinky.  Even I can admit that it looks pretty cool, for a purple phone, that is.

The Walkman Series may be a Blast from the Past for some, but there is nothing Old School about these phones.  The Walkman Series definitely has a long future ahead with something for everyone. No matter what the media is, Walkman will be there, and probably in Mystic Purple, too.

Cubes of the future

Samsung is a company that has become widely popular in the last few years, mostly because of their commitment to quality, innovative products, consumer-focused UI, and competitive prices. Samsung really does have one of the best UI, the Cubic interface that displaces icons as 3D cubes is  become an overwhelming success. So what could be better, I mean we all love cubes, right?

That is why their new S8000 Jet is a must have item.  They slogan they have chosen for the S8000 is “smarter than a smart phone.”  Well that may seem like mission: impossible, but Samsung made that promise mission: accomplished.  Everything about this phone is smart.  Especially the interface but that is not all.  This phone has wi-fi so that you can sit at café and surf the web and it comes with Assisted GPS with support to get you to the Café in the first place.

But the phone gets better with a wishlist of included features that would make any gadget lover happy, even me. The S8000 also comes with a 3.1 inch WVGA AMOLED touch screen, allowing for a much greater viewing angle while also saving your battery.  As far as multimedia goes, the S8000 is a force to be reckoned with.  The 5 megapixel camera takes excellent pictures, and includes face and smile detection, geo-tagging, wide dynamic range, and dual LED flash.  The media player is awesome, including tons of formats, allowing you to utilize the large screen to enjoy movies from the phone’s internal memory or streamed off the internet.  You can even watch the movie “The Cube” right on your Cubic Interface enabled S8000.   Not to mention that you can also edit your own movies directly on the S8000, who knows you could be the next Quentin Tarantino.

So if you want to get your hands on this phone you can click the link below or visit pidiGO.com to find out about more deals on more phones.

Android phone!

Ever since I saw Star Wars as a kid I have wanted an Android.  Well now we all can have one!! And if you’re going to get an Android, the Sony X10 is a great option. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has all the makings of a true classic - a whopping 4 inch screen, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and it's rocking Android with a cool overlay. The X10 also has a user-friendly design with a brilliant display. The feature set is generous and the internal performance is fast.

Now a lot of people think Android is just an operating system, well it’s actually a whole lot more.  Basically every piece of software on the phone is improved because of the innovation that Google has put into Android.  Yeah that’s right, Google is the creator of Android, but they actually work with programmers from around the world to keep Android at the top of its game.  As well there are thousands of applications for Android.  So basically Android is the best thing to come to a mobile phone since SMS.
Once you have decided to go Android you can’t go wrong with the Sony Xperia X10.  Both outside and in, the X10 offers more than many other Android handsets. Its large display is awesome, its multimedia capabilities are impressive, and the user interface is slick and easy to use. You will love the virtual keyboard and the Timescape UI shows all your “events” such as Tweets, SMS, calls, and Facebook messages all together as a deck of cards.  You can also easily click on the event and view it or do whatever you need.  Basically the Timescape UI makes it possible to do everything on the X10 easily and quickly. This combines everything that you would normally do on your phone with the world of social networking.  The X10 also has ample homescreen options and even allows you to use different filters so that you can view what only what is important to you.  This is pretty awesome, and this is why the Xperia X10 is the best Android phone out there today.

I don’t usually talk about looks, but come on this phone is simply beautiful. The main thing is simply how sleek and shiny it is.  It's an understated phone, with a sharp, angular design and minimal buttons - in short, it looks like the kind of high-end handset you'd expect from one of the leading mobile manufacturers. If you ask me, the X10 has it all, looks, style, and innovative features that will put other phones to shame.  If you want the most impressive phone available today, then your only choice is the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.

And now its on sale at pidiGO.com just click the link below.

A long way since Star Trek

Nokia is back with the New C6.  This phone is not only great for messaging and social networking but also provides excellent voice communications, and the Symbian-based Nokia C6 smartphone has a large 3.2 inch screen.  This allows for an excellent Internet viewing experience, and it also features a full suite of email and social networking capabilities.  It is also a touchscreen, which is always nice, especially when it comes with a full slide out QWERTY keyboard.  Lets just say that touchscreens have come a long way since they were first thought up in Star Trek. Personally I like the touchscreen best from the Next Generation, but this picture is epic.

Update your status, comment on your friends and family, or take pics with the 5 megapixel camera and share them on Facebook, MySpace, Flickr and Ovi Share.  You also get live feeds from Facebook and Twitter, so if you are a social network addict you can save the time of having to load the page.  And note that this 5 megapixel camera has excellent picture quality as well as an LED flash. Just about the perfect camera phone.

If you’re like me, then you you probably don’t stop to ask for directions either. Luckily for us the integrated GPS with free Ovi Maps Navigation for voice-guided directions let you save face and get where you’re going.  And if you’re still lost, you can always resort to apps and games downloaded via the pre-loaded Ovi Store.  Or to the multimedia capabilities which are awesome, including live movie streaming that plays back virtually every movie and music format.  The phone will even recommend your music for you and allows you to create music meta-data ID3 tags and album art.  And if you still need entertainment, try using the Flash Lite v3.1.

And maybe once in a while you’ll also want to take care of business.  I like to use the push email.  The easy messaging with home screen widgets makes setting up your email as easy as single digit arithmetic.  The C6 even comes with support for several personal email services (like Gmail, Yahoo!, Hotmail, Ovi Mail and more) along with corporate email (Mail for Exchange).  With all that connectivity, of course the C6 also comes with Wi-Fi networking, a full HTML Web browser with RSS feed support, and personal organizer tools.  Oh, and you can also use it to make and receive calls, lol. It gives you 5 hours of 3G talk time (7 hours on standard GSM networks) and it’s got voice commands and dial – fully equipped for the Starship Enterprise.  And you get to live the experience of the Nokia C6 Starship Enterprise style for only $433.77 including international shipping until October 24th, 2010.

The N-Series Knockout: N85 vs. N96

Two multimedia and entertainment smartphones champions facee off

WELCOME TO THE N-SERIES KNOCKOUT!!
N85 vs. N96
In the right corner we have the N85 weighing in at 128 g
In the left corner we have the reigning champion, the N96 weighing in at an impressive 125 g
So lets get ready to RUMMMMMMBBBBBBBLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEE!!

These two really are fierce competition.  While they share the majority of their some excellent multimedia and entertainment features, they are not quite the identical twins, and the choice between them is a tough one. There are a few strong points for each of them.   The N96 has a larger screen and somehow still manages to be lighter, yet the N85 comes in a much smaller casing.  I also like the AMOLED screen on the N85 which produces brighter and sharper images with less battery consumption.
They both have 16 million colors and excellent gaming capabilities, so there is no winner there.  I am big on cameras so I am pleased that both the N85 and N96 come with Carl Zeiss optics and a 5 megapixel camera.  Which means that there is no reason to carry a camera around with you or even own another camera; unless you are a professional photographer.  They both have A-GPS and an impressive multimedia package. They have a few different video format options and the N96 has an embedded TV broadcast receiver, but besides that they are virtually the same, even offering the same Dual Slide format with multimedia keys, which is actually pretty awesome.  They're even in the same price range.
As far as little goodies go, I really like the slide cover that protects the camera on the N85 but I have to say that I wouldn’t trade it for the flipstand that the N96 comes with.

So where's the biggest difference? The big winner for me with the N96 is the 16 gigabytes of internal memory.  While they both have microSD slots, I really like the idea of havinge 16 gigabytes come with my phone, that is definitely enough to cover my Metallica collection.  The N96 also features a Dual ARM 9 264 MHz processor. On the other hand, The N85's strongest point is its low battery consumption, allowing for almost twice as much talk time before it needs to be recharged. If you're making good use on all those multimedia options or surf the web often like me, that's a big plus.

So, small sized phone, AMOLED screen technology, and long battery time (N85) vs. slightly larger screen, 16 GB of internal memory, and a flipstand (N96), is what it comes down to for a great multimedia and entertainment smartphone.   And now they are on sale at pidiGO.com with FREE International Shipping, the N85 is only $359.99 and the N96 is marked down to an even more impressive $325.30, considering that this price is given in dollars and not euros it is an incredible bargain..  For that price I might just have to buy both!.

Hi-Tech Art

Hi, my name is Geeky Tom and Hi-tech gadgets are my life.  I have been a fan of hi-tech gadgets ever since there have been Hi-Tech gadgets.  That is why I have decided to blog about my favorite gadget, the mobile phone. Now you may ask why the mobile phone (aka cell phone for my fellow Americans) is my favorite gadget.  True they are very common, but today they include almost every gadget you could think of.  I love the idea of having my A-GPS, MP3 player, video player, PDA,  and a mobile TV, all in the same device as an 8 megapixel camera, not to mention they make calls as well.  To make me happy, a phone has to have it all.  And since I am in a good mood I am going to review one of my favorites: the KC910 Renoir by LG.  I not only love this phone because it is named after one of my favorite impressionist, but because this phone gives me the impression that I don’t need to own a single secondary device.  The Renoir also has me won over with its slick and sturdy look and curved reflective metal edges, it’s a real work of art. The center piece is a 3 inch touchscreen display which is sharp, colorful, and extremely easy to use. The Renoir is extremely touch-friendly, the whole interface is designed with fingers in mind, and it has fantastic media capabilities, all together it’s a winner in my book.

I love taking pictures, so I was really happy to find out that Renoir features an 8 megapixel camera with world renowned Schneider-Kreuznach optics. The camera software for the Renoir features an extensive range of settings and modes that you'd expect to find on stand-alone point-and-shoot cameras, including  face and blink detection, macro shooting mode, manual focus, digital image stabilization, and adjustable image sensitivity. The Xenon flash allows for wonderful results even when you have less than perfect lighting. The Renoir is also capable of shooting video at 120 frames per second, effectively creating high-quality videos which you can play back in slow motion, I used this to watch an epic pick-up fail by my good friend James.

I love my media, and luckily the Renoir makes quite a sweet portable media player, supporting MP3 and AAC music formats as well as MP4, DivX and XviD video formats and features Dolby mobile.  How could you possibly get a better movie experience from a handheld device? (Yeah, I’m sure they’ll think of something!). The Renoir also has includes a 3.5 mm headphone adapter and supports TV-out for viewing your massive photos on the big screen. There's a lot to love about the Renoir. The LG KC910 Renoir it does exactly what it sets out to do, and is gives you the camera, phone, and media player all in one small device.
