A Blast from the Past - Or Not

Back in the 80’s, neon shorts, roller-skates, and Walkmans were all the rage.  Especially the unholy combination of the three (which you might still get a glimpse at on the in Venice Beach California, including this guy from who knows what decade. But the world’s moved on since the 1980s: from neon shorts to almost normal cloths, from roller-skates to roller-blades, from walkman to... err... walkman. Only today the Sony Walkman series are some of the best music-centric phones on the market.

All the Sony Ericsson Walkman phones have great music features, including music keys on the front or sides of the phone, TrackID Music Recognition, SenseMe, MediaGO, FM radio, etc.  But not all Walkman’s are created equal.  The W980 (W of course standing for Walkman), for example, comes with an FM-transmitter, meaning that you can send whatever's playing on your phone to any device with a built-in FM radio receiver. This gives you the ability to share your music with all those around you, whether through a friend's hi-fi or your car stereo. The W980 is also a flip phone, so if you want to feel like Captain Kirk using the Communicator, then this is the Walkman phone for you.

On the other hand, if you’re into music and the visual arts, you might want to go with the W995, a slider phone featuring an impressive 8.1 megapixel camera with a plethora of features you’d expect to find on a single purpose camera. In fact, it looks like Sony has stolen some of the best features from their Cybershot series to make this phone the best multimedia phone possible. The W980 and W995 also have clear stereo speakers and clear bass, allowing you to listen to your music at high volumes with quality so clear you’ll feel like you in the recording studio.  While the W995 is Windows 7 compatible, the smart features of the  CandyBar shaped W960 are sure to wow you, including a touchscreen with handwriting recognition, document editor, and Philips Nexperia PNX4008 208 MHz processor.  But if you’re into colors, then the W950 could be the phone for you with its Mystic Purple version, which I know will be a favorite of Pinky Tinky.  Even I can admit that it looks pretty cool, for a purple phone, that is.

The Walkman Series may be a Blast from the Past for some, but there is nothing Old School about these phones.  The Walkman Series definitely has a long future ahead with something for everyone. No matter what the media is, Walkman will be there, and probably in Mystic Purple, too.

Cubes of the future

Samsung is a company that has become widely popular in the last few years, mostly because of their commitment to quality, innovative products, consumer-focused UI, and competitive prices. Samsung really does have one of the best UI, the Cubic interface that displaces icons as 3D cubes is  become an overwhelming success. So what could be better, I mean we all love cubes, right?

That is why their new S8000 Jet is a must have item.  They slogan they have chosen for the S8000 is “smarter than a smart phone.”  Well that may seem like mission: impossible, but Samsung made that promise mission: accomplished.  Everything about this phone is smart.  Especially the interface but that is not all.  This phone has wi-fi so that you can sit at café and surf the web and it comes with Assisted GPS with support to get you to the Café in the first place.

But the phone gets better with a wishlist of included features that would make any gadget lover happy, even me. The S8000 also comes with a 3.1 inch WVGA AMOLED touch screen, allowing for a much greater viewing angle while also saving your battery.  As far as multimedia goes, the S8000 is a force to be reckoned with.  The 5 megapixel camera takes excellent pictures, and includes face and smile detection, geo-tagging, wide dynamic range, and dual LED flash.  The media player is awesome, including tons of formats, allowing you to utilize the large screen to enjoy movies from the phone’s internal memory or streamed off the internet.  You can even watch the movie “The Cube” right on your Cubic Interface enabled S8000.   Not to mention that you can also edit your own movies directly on the S8000, who knows you could be the next Quentin Tarantino.

So if you want to get your hands on this phone you can click the link below or visit pidiGO.com to find out about more deals on more phones.
